Invisible Disabilities: Definitions, Resources, and Example Accommodations

What is the Invisible Condition Database Project?

This project is about creating the largest open-source resource for everyone living with an invisible disability, disease, condition, and chronic illness to be seen, supported, and heard.

This database includes a general category, condition, definition, online resources, online support groups, example workplace and school accommodations, and a shoutout to those who have contributed resources.

There are many resources and support groups online that go unnoticed and with this project, we aim to share your go-to resources with the world!

This list isn’t comprehensive, it’s just the start. And note, that AI was used to support the creation of this resource. There may be errors and this isn’t intentional. If you find an error, please report and it will be fixed ASAP!

What is an invisible condition?

An invisible condition (invisible disability) is a non-apparent illness or health condition (physical or mental) that isn’t seen from the outside. This may include, but is not limited to chronic illness, autoimmune disorders, mental illness, neurodiverse conditions, chronic pain or fatigue, trauma, cancers, and brain injuries.

Invisible condition is inclusive of invisible illness, invisible disability, invisible disease, and non-apparent chronic illness.
